Dear Faculty and Staff,

In light of the recent feline coronavirus exposure in the Penn Animal Blood Bank (PABB) feline donor colony, a decision has been made to establish a new specific pathogen free (SPF) donor colony and adopt out all the current donor cats.  Ideally, PABB would like to place these donor cats into homes where no other cats are housed and where they will be kept indoors.  Also, it might be helpful to have access to these cats in the future for follow-up testing.

Less than 5% of cats exposed to the enteric corona virus will develop FIP; the frequency is even smaller in single cats versus cattery settings. More information can be found in the
FIP Information sheet and at following web site www.catvirus.com.

The PABB feline donors have a reputation for making great pets.  They are extremely curious, friendly, and affectionate.  Although these cats have been exposed to the coronavirus, they are all currently healthy.  If you are interested in learning more about the cats, please stop by the blood bank, 3rd floor Wards, Room 3156, or call 215-573-7222.

Thank you,
Penn Animal Blood Bank
