Coagulation Studies Hereditary bleeding disorders occur commonly in dogs and cats. For hemorrhage caused by platelet problems, see Thrombopathia. Besides platelets and von Willebrand factor, a large group of plasma clotting factors is needed to provide appropriate hemostasis. The Section of Medical Genetics has evaluated and managed (see Transfusion Medicine) many animals with hereditary clotting factor deficiencies known as coagulopathies, and is working closely with the Comparative Hemostasis Laboratory at Cornell University. Please contact Drs. Giger or Callan at (215) 898-8894, fax (215) 573-2162, or email penngen@vet.upenn.edu, for consultations on an animal with a suspected hereditary coagulopathy or thrombopathia. Only on prearranged date. Please contact Dr. Giger (215) 898-8830 or Dr. Callan (215) 898-3999 |
