Pediatrics, Genetics, and Reproduction Clinic

The Section of Medical Genetics offers a unique pediatrics, genetics, and reproduction clinic at VHUP. Clinics are conducted on Monday and Tuesday mornings with faculty and residents being joined by fourth year veterinary students taking their clinical rotation. The genetics clinic deals with the examination of animals with known or suspected inherited disorders for which genetic counseling or special diagnostic studies are required. The pediatrics clinic emphasizes preventive health programs and deals with evaluation of normal development and diagnosis of diseases in puppies and kittens. It provides routine immunizations, treatment, and prevention of parasitism and nutritional counseling. The reproduction clinic deals with breeding issues and infertility problems with male and female dogs and cats. Artificial insemination is offered for specific cases. Furthermore, the Pediatrics, Genetics, and Reproduction Clinic offers consultations to other services at VHUP in addition to referring veterinarians and breeders.
