This is the first Section of Medical Genetics in a clinical department of a veterinary school and thereby provides an excellent opportunity to integrate basic and clinical veterinary research. The Section was founded in 1970 and has focused on the study of naturally occurring genetic diseases of companion animals. The Section of Medical Genetics is dedicated to pursuing clinical and basic research on hereditary diseases of companion animals to better understand the disease processes and to develop novel therapeutic approaches. The section offers opportunities in education and training of veterinarians, graduate researchers, and students in all aspects of comparative medical genetics through courses, clinical rotations, residencies, fellowships, seminars, and publications.
